Sarawak close to securing the services of Philippines striker Mark Hartmann

Former Geylang International striker Mark Hartmann is on the verge of signing for Malaysia Super League (MSL) side Sarawak after impressing the Crocs during trials the past week.

Hartmann, who left the S-League outfit last month, scored two goals for the east Malaysian side in a trial game last week, and caught the attention of their manager David Usop.

According the sarawakcrocs.com, the Philippines forward will undergo a medical check-up before he puts pen to paper. He will become Sarawak's second import, along with Liberian defender Teah Dennis whose contract has reportedly been extended.

Hartmann, who started out with English clubs Portsmouth and Swindon Town as a youngster, made his name with Filipino side Global F.C., scoring 44 times in 57 appearances.

That prolific strike rate earned him a move to Singapore with Geylang, which saw him become the first Filipino to play in the S-League.

Despite scoring eight times in 11 appearances, Geylang decided against extending Hartmann's contract. His availability caught the attention of several teams across the region.

Sarawak are also trialing South Korean forward Lee Jong-Ho, and could make him their third signing.

Other transfer developments in the MSL saw Kedah deciding against renewing the contracts of their three imports Thiago Augusto, Shane Smeltz and Bang Seung-Hwan.

The Malaysia Cup champions paid tribute to the trio for their services on the club's Facebook page.

Smeltz and Thiago made instant impacts for the Canaries after signing during the June transfer window.

They scored 18 times between them to help Kedah to a third place finish in the MSL, including 10 goals in the Malaysia Cup, as the Canaries edged Selangor on penalties to clinch the title in October.

Kosovar playmaker Liridon Krasniqi remains the only import with Kedah after extending his contract.
