LIVE Transfer Talk: Dortmund to offer Erling Haaland new contract, want January decision

The 2022 January transfer window is open (find out when it closes here), and there's plenty of gossip swirling about who's moving where. Transfer Talk brings you all the latest buzz on rumours, comings and goings and, of course, done deals!

TOP STORY: Dortmund to offer Haaland new contract, want January decision

Borussia Dortmund are preparing for contract talks with striker Erling Haaland, his father Alf-Inge and agent Mino Raiola next week, reports SportBILD. And they reportedly want him to make a decision about his future by the end of January.

Haaland, 21, can reportedly leave Dortmund at the end of this season if a club triggers his €75 million release clause. Sources have told ESPN the fee will be inflated by a significant payment to Haaland's representatives for brokering a deal, while senior figures from interested clubs have been made aware that the striker expects wages that would see him earn in excess of €550,000-a-week.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, PSG, Barcelona and Real Madrid are all in the race to sign the Norway forward, with Raiola holding talks with some of Europe's top clubs last year.

"Maybe this summer, maybe the summer after. But there is a big chance that Erling will leave this summer," Raiola told Sport1 in December.

Haaland has scored 76 goals in 76 games for Dortmund after joining from FC Salzburg for around €20m midway through the 2019-20 season, despite attempts from Manchester United and former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to bring him to the Premier League.

Sources told ESPN that Haaland will consider interest from a range of clubs when he leaves Dortmund, but Real Madrid are the leading contenders to sign the player, while the Spanish club are also trying to land Kylian Mbappe as a free agent when his PSG contract expires at the end of this season.

17.03 GMT: Michael Singh of SBNation's Waking The Red reports that Toronto FC had held talks with Belgium forward Dries Mertens, and could now be prepared to revisit those negotiations.

The Reds recently struck a deal for the 34-year-old's Napoli teammate, Lorenzo Insigne, and Mertens reportedly is also interested in a switch to MLS. Amid speculation that he won't see his contract renewed at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, and the uncertainty surrounding striker Jozy Altidore's future in Ontario, the prospect of Mertens reuniting with Insigne in Canada is now looking like a possibility.

Even in the 'twilight years' of his career, he has shown the expert movement and finishing ability that took him to the very top in his career. His contribution within the training centre was excellent, as he became a role model for his peers, showing professionalism on a daily basis.

Barca don't want to do that, so have given Demir permission to speak to other clubs regarding a January move. However, with nothing lined up yet, the Catalan club have been forced to change the teenager's registration to make more space in the first team.

New signing Ferran Torres has now been registered following his €55m arrival from Manchester City, while Barca also want to officially promote youngsters Gavi and Nico Gonzalez to the first-team squad but have to stick with a LaLiga wage limit of €97m per season.

Memphis has emerged as one option, with Barca said to be open to offers for the Dutch forward. The former Lyon player joined Barca last summer and has been an ever-present when fit this season, scoring eight goals. However, with the return of Ansu Fati from injury and the signing of Ferran Torres, coach Xavi Hernandez may be prepared to let him leave.

Barca could even use Memphis as a route to sign Alvaro Morata. The Catalan club are keen to land the striker, who's on loan at Juve from Atletico Madrid until the end of the season, but the Serie A club have so far refused to let him leave.

12.31 GMT: Bayern Munich have signed Kingsley Coman to a contract until 2027.

The France international winger had previously been on terms which expired in 2023 and has been linked to every top club in Europe.

Wood, 30, will cost Newcastle a transfer fee in the region of £25m and will become their second signing under the new ownership after they activated his release clause. He follows full-back Kieran Trippier in signing for Newcastle, after the England international joined from Atletico Madrid for £12m last week.

Newcastle moved quickly to secure Wood after first-choice striker Callum Wilson was ruled out for two months with a calf injury as they continue their battle against the drop. The club will hope to fast-track Wood into the team for their key match against Watford on Saturday, a team who are also struggling at the foot of the Premier League.

11.55 GMT: Luka Jovic has no interest in leaving Real Madrid during this January transfer window, Marca reports, with the €60m forward believing he can contribute to the team's LaLiga title push between now and the end of the season.

Jovic, 24, who is Madrid's second-choice centre forward behind the in-form Karim Benzema, has a contract at the Bernabeu until 2025 and will reportedly re-evaluate his situation next summer.

The Serbia international went on loan back to Eintracht Frankfurt at this time last season but has contributed when called upon this campaign, putting in his best performance for the club with a goal and assist against Real Sociedad on Dec. 4.

The 24-year-old scored 17 goals and set up seven more in his first season at Roma. But since the arrival of Jose Mourinho as coach in May, Mayoral has played 249 minutes and has scored one goal and set up one more in 11 appearances in all competitions this season.

Mayoral is reportedly keen to return to LaLiga and has agreed to move to Getafe, while Marca reports Roma midfielder Gonzalo Villar is also on the verge of joining.

However, Arteta is undergoing a major rebuild having spent £140m on five new signings last summer and is looking to make further additions this month.

"Historically this club has always been targeting the best players in the world and the best players in the world were always interested to come here and I can say that situation hasn't changed," Arteta said at a news conference on Wednesday.

"Every time I have spoken to any player, they were so willing to come. I haven't faced any other situation and that is one of our biggest powers. Our capacity to get the attention of people to come and join our club is something that is an advantage for us."

However, the France forward will only continue at Barca if his requests are met and intends to join a Premier League club this summer if not.

09.41 GMT: Atletico Madrid are already planning for the 2022-23 campaign without Luis Suarez, Cadena Cope reports. The Uruguay forward has not signed a new contract with Atletico with his current deal ending this summer.

The 29-year-old has been a long-term target for sporting director Monchi, as well as Julen Lopetegui, who coached Corona when he was in charge of Porto. Lopetegui has stressed the importance of Corona's versatility and experience as Sevilla continue to push on in various competitions.

08.30 GMT: Manchester United will prioritise a new contract for Marcus Rashford this summer, sources have told ESPN, despite concerns within the club over the forward's ongoing search for his best form.

The 24-year-old's present current at Old Trafford expires in June 2023, although United have the option of extending those terms by a further 12 months which, sources have said, they fully intend to do in order to secure the England international to the club until the end of the 2023-24 season.

Having seen midfielders Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard both enter the final six months of their contracts at United this month and prepare to leave as free agents in the summer, the Old Trafford hierarchy are determined to avoid a similar situation arising with Rashford, who has become one of the club's most high-profile players since scoring twice on his debut as an 18-year-old against FC Midtjylland in Feb 2016.

Sources have told ESPN that United are confident that Rashford is prepared to commit his future to the club, but the player's loss of form is an issue that coaching staff and senior figures are determined to address.
