LIVE Transfer Talk: PSG to rival Man City for Toni Kroos' signature as Real Madrid look to cash in

The summer transfer window was unlike any other; see all the major deals and check out how we graded the biggest signings. And just because the window is shut until January, that doesn't mean the rumours won't keep coming. Here is the latest gossip and speculation.

TOP STORY: Paris Saint-Germain keen on Kroos

A new club has joined the race for Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos, with El Nacional reporting that Paris Saint-Germain want to bring the 31-year-old to the Parc des Princes.

Kroos' contract isn't due to expire until 2023, but he is open to a move before the end of his career. It is reported that his agent has asked for time to consider the offers from abroad, with the Germany international also attracting the interest of Manchester City.

Meanwhile, PSG believe that Madrid president Florentino Perez would be open to letting Kroos leave, with the potential to receive a fee before he begins the final year of his contract.

Kroos joined Los Blancos in 2014 and he has since gone on to make over 300 appearances, winning two LaLiga titles and three Champions League trophies.

21.51 GMT: Internazionale playmaker Christian Eriksen could return to Ajax in January, reports Calciomercato.

The 29-year-old is not eligible to play in the Serie A this season due to his fitted pacemaker over the summer. This has sparked a potential move away from San Siro, with the club willing to let him go to ease their financial strain, who facilitated big-money departures of Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi over the summer.

21.12 GMT: West Ham United have offered a new contract to youngster Ben Johnson, according to Calciomercato. The 21-year-old right-back is able to leave the club on a free transfer in the summer, when his deal expires, but the Hammers are hoping to extend his stay following an increase in playing time.

20.33 GMT: Barcelona are looking at Dani Olmo and Raheem Sterling as forward options in the absence of Sergio Aguero in January.

AS says that the LaLiga club have got the green light to make signings in the winter market, with Aguero set to be sidelined following a cardiac exam. RB Leipzig's Olmo is seen as the first choice to play as a "false nine," while Sterling would be a backup plan if he wants to follow Aguero Manchester City to Camp Nou.

19.54 GMT: West Ham United have been linked with a move for Genk striker Paul Onuachu, reports journalist Ekrem Konur. The 27-year-old has impressed with the Belgian side, scoring 12 goals in 18 appearances across all competitions so far this season, and the Hammers have a close-up view of the forward in their Europa League clash on Thursday.

19.15 GMT: Liverpool and Arsenal are among clubs interested in Real Madrid playmaker Marco Asensio, according to El Nacional.

The 25-year-old's contract expires in 18 months, with Los Blancos looking to move him on before he can leave on a free contract. Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan are among others that are said to be keen on a move for the Spain international.

18.36 GMT: Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele wants to sign a new deal at the club, says Spanish outlet Sport.

The 24-year-old is out of contract in the summer and missed the start of the season with a hamstring injury picked up with France at the Euros. He returned in the win over Dynamo Kiev but suffered another injury setback. The deal is set to be a three-year extension with a lower salary but add-ons included.

17.57 GMT: Liverpool are looking to move on goalkeeper Loris Karius in January, with the 28-year-old out of contract in the summer. The Mirror reports that Karius would be free to move on for nothing in the winter, spending the past few seasons on loan but failing to make the Reds' squad this season.

17.18 GMT: Barcelona are eyeing a move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, according to Spanish outlet Sport. New Spurs coach Antonio Conte is said to be interested in a move for midfielder Franck Kessie, which may open the door to Tottenham's record signing leaving the club.

16. 39 GMT: Former Arsenal transfer target Alexander Isak has revealed ambitions of playing in the Premier League in the future.

In an interview with the Independent, the Real Sociedad striker said: "I'm in a good place at the moment, I'm very happy, but one day it would be nice to play in England as well. They have six or seven of the biggest clubs in the world, it's a very high level, and of course one day it would be an alternative."

16.00 GMT: Foot Mercato reckons that Newcastle could bring in Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.

The 22-year-old fell out of favour under Mikel Arteta and was sent on loan twice, the last of which has been to Marseille. His one-year loan to the French side has an option to make the deal permanent, so it could be that Marseille opt to take that and then move him on for a profit.

15.22 GMT: Liverpool are leading the way for Fulham's Fabio Carvalho, says TEAMtalk.

Carvalho, 19, is out of contract next summer and has been tracked by plenty of top clubs including Tottenham Southampton, West Ham and Leeds.

He has three goals in six Championship appearances and Fulham are keen to get him to sign a new deal, though their final offer has now been rejected by Carvalho and his agent.

14.38 GMT: Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could move to Barcelona, claims El Nacional.

Aubameyang, 32, was linked with a transfer to Camp Nou before he signed a new contract last year. The Gunners captain is happy at the Emirates but Barca are looking for a replacement for Sergio Aguero, who was diagnosed with a heart condition and will miss at least three months.

Again, Barca have no money, so we're not sure how they intend to lure Aubameyang away.

13.52 GMT: Genk striker Paul Onuachu has caught the eye of Arsenal, claims Corriere dello Sport.

Onuachu, 27, has 39 goals in 45 Jupiler League games and the 6-foot-7 Nigeria international could end up replacing Alexandre Lacazette up front if he doesn't renew his contract this summer.

13.16 GMT: Man United have turned down an opportunity to sign Real Madrid forward Eden Hazard in the January transfer window, says El Nacional.

Hazard, 30, has not impressed since his €100m move from Chelsea in 2019 and has struggled with injuries.

Madrid are looking to offload the Belgium international but United aren't in need of a winger right now, having landed Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo for a combined €100m this summer.

12.38 GMT: Mundo Deportivo claims that Chelsea are ready to offer Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele more money to sign for them on a free transfer.

Dembele, 24, is in talks over a new contract as his terms expire in the summer. Barca are hopeful that he will sign up, but the Blues are clearly able to offer him some good wages too.

11.56 GMT: Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule is on the radar of Newcastle, says Bild.

Sule, 26, is out of contract in the summer and may seek a new challenge, with a January move to the Premier League on the cards.

11.20 GMT: PSG had a wonderful transfer window over the summer, but they've got issues.

10.37 GMT: At Tottenham, Antonio Conte is betting on himself... and that's not a bad thing, writes Gab Marcotti.

Antonio Conte is betting on himself. He's betting that he can restore star-crossed players to greatness (or, at least, a level of output equal to their salaries/transfer fees). Betting that he can jolt Tottenham Hotspur to life. Betting that his "intensity/winning mentality schtick" -- which has generally been around as long as coaches, in any sport, have existed, but which he takes to another level -- will be so successful that it persuades the club to loosen the budget constraints and invest meaningfully in the squad.

(And -- a corollary to that last wager -- betting that if they don't spend, he'll still achieve enough that he'll be able to jump ship to a bigger club, hence his 18-month contract.)

09.48 GMT: Tottenham Hotspur sporting director Fabio Paratici says that he has not discussed transfer targets with new manager Antonio Conte yet.

Conte was appointed on Wednesday to replace Nuno Espirito Santo, who was sacked on Monday following Spurs' dismal 3-0 home defeat to Manchester United.

"We haven't spoken about players, we have to be focused on our team and then we will see," Paratici said. "I think the team is competitive, we trust in the players, we have very good players so we don't speak about [new] players now, it is not the right time."

Conte had been a candidate to take over in the summer, but it was reported that he was not willing to take over without certain assurances that he would be backed in the transfer market.

08.52 GMT: Al-Sadd say that they are not willing to let their manager Xavi Hernandez leave despite interest from Barcelona, according to the Qatari club's CEO Turki Al-Ali.

A Barcelona delegation has travelled to Qatar to finalise an agreement for club great Xavi to take over at Camp Nou, Barca vice president Rafa Yuste and director of football Mateu Alemany flew to Doha after Tuesday's Champions League win over Dynamo Kiev, and sources told ESPN that Barca hope to announce Xavi as Ronald Koeman's successor before the end of the week.

However, Al-Ali said in a social media statement on their official Twitter account: "We welcome the visit of the administrative delegation from Barcelona, and we appreciate and respect this.

"The club's position is clear from the beginning -- we are committed to keeping our coach Xavi with us and we cannot have him leave at this sensitive time of the season."

Xavi said earlier on Wednesday after coaching his team to a 3-3 draw against Al-Duhail that a return to Barcelona was "common sense" as negotiations continue.

"It's a question of common sense and in the end it has to happen," the former midfielder said. "I am excited. I'm really looking forward to returning home. I hope it happens. It would be spectacular to coach Barca. The two clubs are in conversations. I can't say a lot more but I'm a positive person. They have to reach an agreement. That's where it's at. The two clubs know my position and I hope there is a solution soon."

08.00 GMT: Newcastle United are now considering appointing Eddie Howe, the BBC reports, after Unai Emery confirmed he had taken himself out of the running to be the club's next manager.

Emery, 50, confirmed after Villarreal's 2-0 Champions League win over Young Boys on Tuesday that Newcastle had signalled their interest in appointing him but were yet to make an official approach.

"Villarreal is my home and I'm fully committed," former Sevilla, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal coach Emery said in a statement posted to social media on Wednesday. "Honestly I'm grateful for the interest from a great club but even more for being here. That is why I have informed [Villarreal owner] Fernando Roig of my decision to continue being part of this project, because of the commitment and respect I received from my club and from the players, which is mutual.

"Despite the rumours yesterday in another country, within the club there was transparency and loyalty, with the Roig family and with my staff, which is total, and for me the most important thing. Villarreal is my home and I am 100% committed."

The attention will now turn to former Bournemouth boss Howe, who is now thought to be the frontrunner for the vacancy opened after Steve Bruce was sacked.

PAPER GOSSIP (by Adam Brown)

- Barcelona are looking to offer Nico Gonzalez a new contract, writes Nicolo Schira. Despite his deal expiring in 2024, the club want to meet with the 19-year-old midfielder's representatives to discuss a new long-term deal. Gonzalez has made 10 appearances for the Blaugrana so far this season after coming through the club's youth system.

- Christopher Nkunku could be set for a move to the Premier League after signing with football agent Pini Zahavi, according to Le Parisien. Newcastle United and Chelsea are rumoured to be interested in the 23-year-old midfielder, who scored in RB Leipzig's 2-2 Champions League draw with PSG on Wednesday.

- Andre Onana is close to reaching an agreement with Internazionale, according to Nicolo Schira. The 25-year-old goalkeeper has been linked to clubs across Europe as talks over a new contract with Ajax showed little signs of progress, and it looks as though his next step will be in the Serie A for the Nerazzurri on a free transfer. Onana has recently returned to training after a 12-month ban for doping.

- Philippe Coutinho could be set for a Premier League return, with Barcelona ready to accept an offer from Newcastle United. That's according to Sport, which writes that the 29-year-old attacking midfielder is linked with a loan switch to St. James' Park. Coutinho has struggled to find a regular place in the Barca XI since he joined for €160m in 2018, and has been one of the players that the Camp Nou hierarchy have been looking to offload since the summer.

- Corriere dello Sport writes that Roma boss Jose Mourinho is targeting two players from the Premier League, with Chelsea's Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tottenham's Harry Winks added to his shortlist. Roma are keen to strengthen to avoid missing out on Champions League football and will look to target the duo in January. Winks, 25, played under Mourinho during his spell as manager of Tottenham Hotspur, while Loftus-Cheek, also 25, is enjoying a rich vein of form that has seen him strongly linked with a return to the England squad.
