LIVE Transfer Talk: Real Madrid eye loan for Man United's Donny van de Beek

Amid all the action at Euro 2020 and the Copa America, the summer transfer window has opened, with Europe's biggest clubs looking to make a splash in the transfer market. Check out the latest gossip below, and see all official deals here.

TOP STORY: Real Madrid eye Van de Beek loan

Real Madrid had an interest in midfielder Donny van de Beek before he joined Manchester United from Ajax last summer and now they have returned, says The Daily Star.

Van de Beek, 24, hasn't impressed at Old Trafford since making a £40m move and made only four Premier League starts last season, with United ready to offload the Netherlands international in the transfer window.

The midfielder was close to joining Real Madrid in the summer of 2019, with Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain all interested in signing him in the past. But Madrid are the ones who have kept their interest and are ready to offer him a loan move, with a permanent deal in 2022 if he does well.

The loan would cost £2m, which is easier for the financially-stricken Madrid to manage.

Ajax have also reportedly asked about having Van de Beek back, but that approach has been rejected.

LIVE BLOG

21.59 BST: Folks that's it for another day of our live Transfer Talk blog, but we'll be back shortly with tomorrow's paper round. Thanks as always for checking in!

21.02 BST: Duncan Castles said on the Transfer Window podcast that Real Madrid are holding out hope that they can lure Paul Pogba to the Bernabeu after his contract expires with Manchester United in 2022. The transfer specialist went as far as to say that there has been communication with the France international from Madrid advising him to see out his current deal because Los Blancos cannot afford to pay for him right now amid financial struggles caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

20.12 BST: A bit of MLS manager news here as Toronto FC has fired first-year head coach Chris Armas, one day after the team lost its sixth straight match with a 7-1 drubbing at the hands of D.C. United.

Toronto FC (1-2-8, 5 points) are 0-6-1 since posting a 2-0 victory over the Columbus Crew SC on May 12. The club has yielded an MLS-worst 27 goals in 11 matches, while scoring only 13 times.

The club has yet to name a replacement for the outgoing Armas.

19.22 BST: With speculation swirling around his future, Gazzetta dello Sport is reporting that Cristiano Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes wants Juventus to offer his client a new deal that would keep him at Juventus until 2023. Ronaldo's contract with the Serie A powerhouse runs until 2022 and reports in England and Italy have suggested that he has drawn interest from Paris Saint-Germain and his former club Manchester United. However, it now appears the 36-year-old great could be set to stay in Turin for the next two seasons.

18.34 BST: Barcelona are keen to get Philippe Coutinho's wage bill off their books, but have become resigned to the fact that a loan is probably their only option, reports Mundo Deportivo.

AC Milan has emerged as a possible destination for the 29-year-old, says the report, with the Rossoneri looking to fill the void left by the departure of Hakan Calhanoglu to Inter at the end of the Serie A season.

Coutinho has been out of action since last December after suffering a serious knee injury at Barca and is rehabbing in his native Brazil ahead of the restart of club football following a busy summer of international tournaments.

17.48 BST: According to Corriere dello Sport, Inter Milan have set their sights on a move for Manchester City's Benjamin Mendy. The France international has bee plagued by injuries during his time with the reigning Premier League champions, but that has not deterred the Serie A suitors, says the report.

The 26-year-old has scored two goals in 49 appearances since joining City in 2017.

17.00 BST: Liverpool are looking for a new midfielder after Georginio Wijnaldum moved to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer and their search has led them to Atletico Madrid

Indeed, La Razon says that Atletico have agreed to let Saul Niguez move to Liverpool for around €70m.

Saul, 26, wants a new challenge after winning La Liga last season but signed a NINE-year contract back in 2017, which expires in 2026. All Liverpool have to do is come up with the cash and the Spain star can sign for them.

16.24 BST: Barcelona and Tottenham are keeping an eye on Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne, says Corriere dello Sport.

Insigne, 30, has had a fine Euro 2020 tournament with Italy and scored a fantastic goal against Belgium. The Napoli skipper only has a year left on his contract, with the player reportedly looking for a pay rise.

15.46 BST: Turkey and Roma winger Cengiz Under has signed for Marseille on loan. The French club have an option to sign him permanently next summer for €12m.

Under, 23, spent last season at Leicester on loan where he scored two goals in 19 games.

15.30 BST: Mat Ryan joined Arsenal on loan from Brighton in January but Sky Sports reports he's moving to Real Sociedad.

Ryan, 29, is entering the final year of his Brighton contract and the Australia international was linked with a permanent move back to Arsenal or to join former Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou at Celtic.

The report states: "Ryan is keen to be a first-choice goalkeeper at his next club and the possibility of that happening at La Liga side Sociedad proved decisive."

14.49 BST: Football.London reports that Tottenham will keep Ryan Sessegnon at the club next season and not send him on another loan.

The 21-year-old left-back/winger had a good season at Hoffenheim in the German Bundesliga, but new boss Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to see what he can do.

The report also says that Spurs will consider offers for England midfielder Harry Winks, with Aston Villa keen.

14.20 BST: Fabrizio Romano reports that Eintracht Frankfurt are looking to spend some of the cash they got by letting Andre Silva move to RB Leipzig and have made an official bid around €8m to sign Jens Petter Hauge.

Hauge, 21, moved to Milan for €4m last year and the winger impressed before fading in the second half of the season. Now Milan are looking for €15m from clubs looking to land the Norway international.

14.00 BST: PSG are considering signing Sergio Ramos now he's left Real Madrid.

13.03 BST: Arsenal could have some competition for Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge as Atalanta and Napoli have entered the race, according to The Sun.

Berge, 23, missed a lot of last season through injury as the Blades were relegated from the Premier League. He reportedly has a £35m release clause in his contract, but the club would let him go for less.

Arsenal are keen to replace Roma-bound Granit Xhaka, while the two Serie A clubs want to land the Norway international on loan first before committing to a permanent deal next summer.

12.58 BST: Crystal Palace have confirmed the appointment of Patrick Vieira as their new manager until 2024.

Vieira, who made his name as a player at Arsenal and managed New York City FC and Nice after he retired, told the club website: "I am really excited to have this opportunity to return to the Premier League, and manage this great football club, as we begin a new chapter together.

"It is a project that is really appealing to me, having spoken a lot with the Chairman and Sporting Director about their ambition and plans for the whole club, including the Academy. The club has fantastic foundations in place after many years in the Premier League, and I hope we can make further improvements and continue to drive the club forward.

"I am also very excited to experience the atmosphere the club's supporters make at Selhurst Park and away from home too, and I know just how important that can be for the team."

12.21 BST: Barcelona really are in trouble. With €1.2 billion of debt and a new contract for Lionel Messi on the table, they need to reduce their wage bill.

Mundo Deportivo claims that they are willing to release Samuel Umtiti and Miralem Pjanic to make this happen.

Pjanic, 31, only moved to Camp Nou last summer in a swap deal with Arthur that saw Barca made a €12m profit. But the midfielder's high wages have become an issue as the club need to cut costs, while they have been looking to move on defender Umtiti for some time now.

11.35 BST: Inter Milan are set to lose Achraf Hakimi to PSG for €70m and could use around €20m of that to land Netherlands and PSV full-back Denzel Dumfries.

Calciomercato claims that Inter are negotiating the transfer fee but it's high because the 25-year-old was one of the best players for Netherlands at  Euro 2020 with two goals in four appearances.

Inter, who are struggling financially, want to sign the player on loan with an option to sign him permanently next year.

11.09 BST: James Olley reports on Tottenham's chaotic coaching search ending with Nuno: How it took them 72 days, and six candidates, to make a hire

It took 72 days, thorough discussions with at least six different candidates and one strong fan backlash, but Tottenham Hotspur finally have themselves a new head coach.

Nuno Espirito Santo was appointed last Wednesday, receiving a two-year contract at the end of a protracted and frankly calamitous search that began with Jose Mourinho's sacking on April 19.

Chairman Daniel Levy is widely regarded as one of the shrewdest football administrators around, building arguably the best stadium in the world while creating an environment in which Mauricio Pochettino led Spurs to four successive top-four finishes and the 2019 Champions League final. Yet Tottenham's chaotic attempt to find someone to take them back to that level -- and ultimately beyond -- after Mourinho's disappointing 17-month tenure, was a world apart from the typical business savvy with which the club usually operates.

It's a consequence of bad timing, pursuing frustrating dead ends and a confused thinking arising from the appointment midway through the process of new managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, who was hired in the wake of Mourinho's departure. Santo has a huge task in taking Tottenham forward, one undermined at least initially by the knowledge that he wasn't even close to being first choice for the role.

Spurs have played down the strength of their interest in certain names linked with the post but there were overtures made to Hansi Flick, Pochettino, Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso, amongst others. That's not to say Santo cannot succeed, of course, but the circumstances that brought about his arrival are far from ideal.

10.45 BST: Can Man United get a deal for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane over the line?

10.05 BST: Wolves have completed the signing of Barcelona winger Francisco Trincao on loan, with an option to sign him permanently.

Trincao, 21, only signed for the club last season for €31m from Braga and scored three goals in 42 games.

09.20 BST: Arsenal will move for West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone if they can't land Sheffield United's Aaron Ramsdale, says the Daily Star.

The Gunners need a backup for No. 1 Bernd Leno as Iceland goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson has not impressed and Mat Ryan has returned to Brighton after his loan ended. The 23-year-old Ramsdale is reportedly their top target.

Sheffield United want £25m for clubs to sign him, which has Arsenal look at alternatives and they could get Johnstone for around £5m less.

08.47 BST: Brighton boss Graham Potter is keen to land former players Dan James and Joe Rodon, says The Sun.

James, 23, will be down the pecking order at Man United following Jadon Sancho's €85m arrival from Borussia Dortmund, with the Wales winger already struggling for game time last season.

Meanwhile, Tottenham's Rodon could replace Ben White in the centre of defence if he is allowed to leave this summer. Both players played under Potter at Swansea.

08.30 BST: FC Dallas and U.S. international midfielder Tanner Tessmann is on the verge of being transferred to Serie A side Venezia, multiple sources have told ESPN.

Multiple sources also indicated that the proposed fee is in excess of $3m, but one source cautioned that there is still some work to do to complete the deal. Just last January Tessmann had training stint with Bayern Munich during the MLS offseason.

Tessmann, 19, is in his second season with FCD's first team, after having come up through Dallas' academy since 2016. He's made a total of 28 league and playoff appearances, 16 of them starts, spending the bulk of his time in the center of midfield. At international level, Tessmann made his only appearance at senior level back on Jan. 31, coming on as a 78th minute substitute in a 7-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago. He also made three appearances for the U.S. U-23 team during the Olympic qualifying tournament last March.

PAPER GOSSIP (by Adam Brown)

- Juventus could allow Paulo Dybala's contract to run out in 2022 if a deal can't be reached, according to Calciomercato. Speculation over the Argentina forward's future has been circulating and despite previous reports that both parties were close to reaching terms on an agreement, there is still uncertainty over the 27-year-old. Cristiano Ronaldo's contract also is set to expire in under a year's time, which could see Juventus prioritise a new deal for the Portuguese star. While reports suggest the Bianconeri want to keep their current attacking options for the upcoming campaign together, €10m per season for Dybala might be too expensive with negotiations with Ronaldo looming.

- Juventus star Giorgio Chiellini will sign a new contract at the club that will see him remain in Turin until the summer of 2022. Fabrizio Romano says that the deal could be signed over the next few weeks, with the Italy defender preparing for a Euro 2020 semifinal clash against Spain on Tuesday evening, when the 36-year-old is expected to start.

- Arsenal are ready to move on Willian, writes the Mirror. The North London club are reportedly ready to cut their losses after an underwhelming first season at the Emirates for the former Chelsea star, during which he scored just a single goal in 37 appearances. Willian will turn 33 in August and still has two years left on his contract with the Gunners.

- Football Insider writes that two Premier League clubs are targeting West Bromwich Albion defender Darnell Furlong. Burnley and Brentford are the two clubs reported to be interested in the player who could be moved on with the Baggies requiring to raise funds after being relegated last season. The 25-year-old was a regular at The Hawthorns during the 2020-21 Premier League campaign, during which he made 35 appearances.

- Sergio Busquets will stay at Barcelona despite approaches from Major League Soccer, reports Fabrizio Romano. The Spain midfielder has been linked with multiple clubs this summer, but it is now expected that Busquets will only consider a move across the Atlantic next year. The 32-year-old is still a key player for the Blaugrana after making over 40 appearances for the club last season.

- Internazionale are keen on recruiting Wolfsburg winger Josip Brekalo, according to Calciomercato. The Croatia international has reportedly been on the radar of the Serie A club for some time, and a deal is likely to cost between €18m and €20m. The 23-year-old scored seven and assisted three goals in the Bundesliga last season.

- Marseille are continuing their summer spending with Arsenal midifelder Matteo Guendouzi set to swap the Premier League for Ligue 1. That's according to Fabrizio Romano, who says that a deal will be completed next week after Guendouzi turned down an approach from Benfica. The deal will see Guendouzi join on loan with an obligation to buy for the French club. The 22-year-old spent last season on loan with Hertha Berlin, featuring 24 times in the Bundesliga.
