TOP STORY: Chelsea head Chilwell chase
Chelsea have emerged as the frontrunners in the race for Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell, according to a report in the Mail.
The 22-year-old has been identified as a key target by Blues boss Frank Lampard, and the Londoners could make a move for the England international as early as January, if their transfer ban is lifted at the turn of the year.
Manchester City were also reportedly interested in Chilwell little more than a year ago as they considered their long-term options following a string of injuries to Benjamin Mendy, but Pep Guardiola cooled his interesT and instead triggered a £5.3 million buy-back clause to re-sign Spaniard Angelino from PSV Eindhoven.
Manchester United are also keen, while a move for Chilwell won't be a cheap one for any club with the defender tied down to a contract at the King Power Stadium until the summer of 2024.

22.50 BST: Bayer Leverkusen and Germany midfielder Kai Havertz is wanted by pretty much everybody.
With links to Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Arsenal, the 20-year-old midfielder is about as highly ranked as any young player in Europe. Havertz has revealed he will seek advice from one manager before he makes any decision on his future. The manager? Germany boss Joachim Low.
"I listen to many people but in the end it will be my decision. I will embrace any advice Low will give me because he has a lot experience - it wouldn't be smart to not listen to him," he said at a press conference ahead of a Euro 2020 qualifier with Estonia.
A lot of clubs figure to try and get in the good graces of Low now!
21.18 BST: Could Wolves be set to lose one their stars to Serie A?
According to Italian site Calciomercato, Portuguese midfielder Ruben Neves is one of three midfielders that new Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte is considering to bolster his squad. The reports lists Lazio's Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Neves and Barcelona's Ivan Rakitic as three potential targets for the Nerrazurri.
The 22-year-old Neves is valued at around £50 million but ambitious Wolves don't seem to be in any rush to cash in on any of their major assets.
20.29 BST: Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri, maybe even more than most managers, has his favourites.
Chelsea's move for his Napoli charge Jorginho, case and point. If a report in The Express is to be believed, Sarri is set to make another move for one of his former players, this time Chelsea Emerson Palmieri.
The 25-year-old, who emerged as Chelsea's first-choice left-back late in the season, has previous Serie A experience with Roma, knows Sarri's system and would provide cover behind Alex Sandro on the left.
19.53 BST: Jermain Defoe (yes, he's still playing) is in the midst of an 18-month loan spell under Steven Gerrard at Scottish Premier League leaders Rangers.
The 37-year-old has told Sky Sports News he wants to stay with Rangers beyond this spring and that he has not even begun to think about hanging up his boots.
"I want to stay," he says. "It's a special football club -- you feel it."
Defoe added that he thinks he can play well into his 40s and judging by his record with Gers (17 goals in 33 games), who is to doubt him?
19.02 BST: Mesut Ozil is Arsenal's most expensive player at £350,000-a-week but the German has played just 71 minutes in the league this season.
The soon-to-be 31-year-old has been cast aside this season under Unai Emery and is reportedly seeking an out via a January loan. According to Turkish news outlet Takvim, one team that is interested in the polarising playmaker is Ozil's beloved Fenerbahce. A third-generation Turk, Ozil's family and friends are Fenerbahce supporters and have encouraged the out-of-favour Arsenal man to play for the Turkish giants.
In any loan deal, Arsenal would be willing to pay some of Ozil's wages, as a team of Fenerbahce's stature could never afford Ozil's full wages. D.C. United of Major League Soccer, who currently employ Wayne Rooney, are also said to have interest in the former Germany international. Stay tuned...
17.45 BST: Chelsea could recall midfielder Ethan Ampadu from RB Leipzig in January, according to The Sun, with the teenager yet to play a single minute on loan in Germany.
Ampadu, 19, gained some valuable playing time under Maurizio Sarri last season, but his only appearances so far this term have come for Wales, including in this week's 1-1 draw with Slovakia.
16.45 BST: The agent of Inter Milan's Valentino Lazaro has told Calciomercato it is "absurd" to believe the winger will leave Inter in January.
Lazaro joined the Italian club from Hertha Berlin this summer, and the player's agent, Max Hagmayr, dismissed claims the Austria international could exit already.
"It's so crazy that I also find it unpleasant to have to reply," Hagmayr said.
"[Lazaro] will prove to be an Inter player and he'll help the team win the Scudetto."
16.05 BST: Parma have announced the extension of Gervinho's contract until 2022.
The former Arsenal forward joined the Serie A club last summer on a three-year deal.
15.10 BST: According to the Mirror, Manchester City have joined their rivals United in a bid to sign Ruben Dias.
The Benfica defender, 22, has 13 international caps for Portugal and is under contract at his club until 2024.

Leicester City's Premier League title-winning coach Claudio Ranieri is set to be announced as Sampdoria's new manager, Sky Italy has reported.
13.10 BST: Former Napoli star Marek Hamsik has said he wouldn't rule out a return to the Serie A side after leaving for Dalian Yifang in China this February.
The Slovakia international spent 12 years in Naples, playing over 500 matches and overtaking Diego Maradona as the club's all-time top goalscorer.
Speaking to Sport Mediaset after Slovakia's 1-1 draw with Wales this week, the midfielder said he wouldn't "exclude coming back" to Napoli and that the club "remain in my heart".
12.20 BST: Sport Bild has reported that Barcelona did not send a scout to watch Kai Havertz during Germany's 2-2 draw with Argentina on Wednesday as the Catalan club are already sure of the 20-year-old's quality.
The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder is the subject of great interest from fellow Bundesliga side Bayern Munich, as well as Real Madrid.
11.35 BST: According to AS in Spain, Manchester United have a genuine interest in Red Bull Salzburg's Erling Haaland.
The 19-year-old was coached by compatriot Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Molde, and if the United boss is still at Old Trafford come next summer, he could try to play on the pair's past to bring the young striker to the Premier League.
11.10 BST: AC Milan left-back Ricardo Rodriguez has been linked to Everton by Swiss newspaper Blick, but Calciomercato claims that Borussia Dortmund and Schalke are also after the 27-year-old.
Everton are looking for a long-term replacement for Leighton Baines, who is 34, while Lucas Digne needs competition for his place.
10.53 BST: Borussia Dortmund assistant manager Jorg Heinrich has said that it will be hard for the club to keep Jadon Sancho.
Sancho, 19, is a target for Manchester United, according to ESPN FC sources, while Bayern Munich, Juventus and PSG have also been credited with interest.
"Jadon can become one of the best players in Europe, or even the world," Heinrich told Omnisport. "It won't be easy to keep him at Dortmund. We hope he plays one or two seasons longer but we all know very, very big clubs with a lot of money want to have him in their team.
"He should know Dortmund is an excellent place for young players to play consistently and to develop on a very, very high level."
09.49 BST: Feyenoord midfielder Orkun Kokcu has attracted the attention of Arsenal, says the Daily Mail.
Kokcu, 18, is a Turkey U21 international and has impressed for his club so far this season. £20m would reportedly be enough to land the midfielder and add another top young prospect to the Gunners' squad.
09.06 BST: Bild reports that Bayern Munich won't allow Thomas Muller a transfer in January, but may contemplate letting him go in the summer when they have more time to land a replacement -- either Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho or Manchester City's Leroy Sane.
08.30 BST: Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone says the departure of left-back Lucas Hernandez to Bayern Munich this summer was "what has hurt his team the most."
Simeone told Cadena Ser radio: "[Antoine] Griezmann was the most difficult [departure] to replace. But the departure that hurt us the most was that of Lucas. Because he was one of our lads, of the youth team, one of us."
Atletico signed Joao Felix from Benfica following Griezmann's departure and Simeone has high hopes for the young Portugal forward.
"Our investment of €126m is not for [Real Madrid summer signing Eden] Hazard, who is 30 but for a 19-year-old," Simeone said. "Joao has a prospect that no other one has. I believe in his career process as it is now that he will score more goals and give more assists that when Griezmann was 26. He is similar to Kaka, he is a player that needs spaces."

Ole backed for long-term rebuild
The Telegraph writes that Manchester United are planning to make up to eight major signings in the next two summer transfer windows, with Old Trafford chiefs now conceding that the side are at least six players short of challenging for major honours.
The mass rebuild will be led by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, despite a poor start to the season that has seen them win just twice in their opening eight Premier League games. It is reported that the Norwegian will be given plenty of time to bring his "three-year vision" to reality, and will not be sacked if his side lose to Liverpool in their next game on Oct. 20.
Plans for at least one signing could be accelerated to January, and United are also set to push ahead with plans to reshuffle their recruitment setup, with at least one technical director arriving in the coming months.
Spurs to move Eriksen to Madrid
Tottenham and Real Madrid are afraid. According to the Mirror, Spurs fear losing Christian Eriksen for nothing. The 27-year-old's contract expires at the end of the season, and with the ability to sign a pre-contract with foreign clubs beginning in January, time is running out for the North London club to cash in on the playmaker.
And in Marca, it's reported that Madrid are worried that they could miss out on Eriksen in the way that they lost on on Kepa Arrizabalaga. While the club failed to prioritise a €20m bargain buy for the then-Athletic goalkeeper in January 2018, he eventually signed a new deal with the Basque club before agreeing an €80m move to Chelsea that summer. Los Blancos are reportedly determined not to repeat their mistake.
Which should make for a fairly straightforward move for Eriksen to swap London for the Spanish capital come the new year, right?

- Inter manager Antonio Conte is reportedly lining up a move for Italy Under-20 captain Davide Bettella, according to Calciomercato. The 19-year-old defender is on loan at Pescara from fellow Serie A side Atalanta, and could be available for around €10m next summer.
- Calciomercato reports that Napoli are interested in a possible triple deal to sign Genk trio Joakim Maehle, Carlos Cuesta and Sander Berge. Carlo Ancelotti reportedly was impressed by the three during his side's 0-0 draw with the Belgian club in the Champions League earlier this month.
