A match between Young Africans and Iringa United had to be halted this week when airborne insect intruders made their presence felt.

Early in the second half, many players suddenly stopped playing and hit the deck when the swarm descended.

Supporters began to do likewise up in the stands, running across the terraces and diving for cover while the players and officials evacuated the pitch entirely.

Some players were reportedly stung by the marauding wingers, but nobody suffered any serious injuries as Young Africans went on to win 4-0.

This is not the first time this has happened in recent weeks. In October, Dani Alves and his Sao Paulo teammates were subjected to an aerial bombardment during their match against Fortaleza.

Chelsea's Ampadu loses trademark dreadlocks

Without wishing to be overly dramatic, we truly have witnessed the end of an era this Christmas as Chelsea player Ethan Ampadu has had his trademark dreadlocks shaved off.

The 19-year-old -- on a season-long loan from Stamford Bridge at Bundesliga club RB Leipzig -- has had his long, shaggy extensions sheared after surrendering to his first hair cut in years.

First Marouane Fellaini lets go of his distinctive 'fro, now this.

Ampadu entrusted the task to HD Cutz, who also provides stylings to the likes of Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez and Jadon Sancho.

The video clip of the cut prompted plenty of replies from the Wales international's teammates including Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi.

To be fair, Ampadu's new do is very slick.
