Safuwan Baharudin scores third goal in two weeks in MSL victory

Singapore's Safuwan Baharuddin popped up with another important goal to lift PDRM FA out of the relegation zone after a 2-0 win away to Terengganu in the Malaysia Super League (MSL) on Wednesday night.

The midfielder gave the Cops the lead early in the second half with his third goal in his last five matches before Brazil's former Selangor star Guilherme De Paula made the points safe with a late strike.

With the win, PDRM FA climbed to seventh in the 12-team MSL on 17 points, three points above the dreaded bottom two. But, on a crowded table, the last eight teams are separated by only four points.

Safuwan has been in good form since the Malaysian domestic season resumed earlier this month, with his three goals coming in just two weeks.

The 24-year-old had provided the winner in the 2-1 victory over Perak in the Malaysia Cup opener on July 13 before netting a stoppage time equaliser to deny Johor Darul Ta'zim three points in the same competition three days later. Safuwan's strike earned PDRM a 1-1 draw against JDT in that game.

He now has six goals in all competitions since moving to the Kuala Lumpur-based team from LionsXII at the start of 2016.

He will be watching from afar when his Singapore international teammates play Cambodia in a friendly in Phnom Penh on Thursday night.

Safuwan, and other Malaysia-based stars like Hariss Harun and Baihakki Khaizan, haven't been released for the match because it doesn't fall in an international week.

Fauzi Pilus' PDRM will next host PKNS FC in the Malaysia Cup third round on Saturday before they hit the road to face Perak in the MSL on Aug 3.

PDRM are top of Group C in the Malaysia Cup on four points after two matches.
