Stats: Arsenal's record 100, Salah's 5 behind only Henry's 7

Penalties, controversies and more penalties - and we're not even talking about Abu Dhabi. The weekend in Europe's top 5 leagues saw plenty of action. In England, four of the top five won via penalties (Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United). The team in fourth, West Ham United, drew away at Burnley. In Spain, Real Madrid comfortably beat Atletico Madrid to maintain their dominance atop the standings. They are now 8 points ahead of second-placed Sevilla, 13 points ahead of Atleti in fourth and a whopping 18 ahead of Barcelona (who drew 2-2 with Osasuna) in eighth. Across the border, Kylian Mbappe helped ease PSG past his former club Monaco and ensure their lead at the top remained at 13 points. In Italy, a draw for AC Milan at Udinese saw Inter Milan climb back up top after they smashed Cagliari.

By The Numbers has all the best stats from the weekend action:

Premier League

00:15

Since Opta's records have exact times (the start of the 2006-07 season), Sadio Mane's booking after 15 seconds against Chelsea is the earliest recorded in a PL game.

2

Chelsea vs. Liverpool was quite the goalfest. In fact, it was only the second PL game between two teams starting the day in the top four to see both score 2+ goals in the first half. The first? Arsenal's 3-2 win over Manchester United in November 1997.

4

Mohamed Salah has now scored four goals against Chelsea in the PL. Along with Kevin de Bruyne, that's the joint-most a former Chelsea player has scored against them in the competition. Quite the illustrious pair, eh?

10

This was Arsenal's 10th straight league loss vs. Manchester City, their longest losing streak against any opponent in league history.

11

Manchester City's win saw them move onto a 11-point lead at the top of the PL table at the time. In PL history, only two teams have had bigger leads at the end of January 1 of a season -- Manchester United in 1993/94 and City themselves in 2017/18 (both 12 points).

22

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the 22nd different player to miss a PL penalty for Everton. Only Arsenal (23) have had more different players miss a penalty in the competition's history.

25

Salah has now been directly involved in atleast 25 goals (16G, 9A) for five consecutive seasons now. Only one player has had more in PL history -- Thierry Henry (7 from 1999-2000 to 2005-06).

100

This is quite the stat. Gabriel's red card was Arsenal's 100th in the PL. They are now the first side in PL history to receive 100 reds. Under Mikel Arteta, they have received 11, more than any other side since his first game in charge.

150

Salah has now scored 150 goals for English clubs (all comps) -- 148 for Liverpool, 2 for Chelsea.

LaLiga

4

This is an odd, odd stat. Real Madrid have not won any of the four games in which they have enjoyed the most possessions (all comps) this season: Cadiz - 82%, Sheriff - 76%, Osasuna - 75% and on Sunday, Getafe - 74%.

24

Barcelona conceded 24 fouls in this game vs. Mallorca, their highest tally in a single LaLiga game since... November 2008 vs. Málaga at La Rosaleda (also 24) under Pep Guardiola.

Messi Ronaldo watch
