Stats: Messi's Cadiz struggles, Kane's derby record and Pirlo's unbeaten run

A busy weekend of football translates to a busy Monday for this column, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

In the Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur beat Arsenal 2-0 to keep their lead atop the table (on goal difference from Liverpool, who smashed Wolves 4-0). Chelsea, Leicester City, and Manchester United all won to round off the top 5. Southampton, meanwhile, can go 5th if they beat Brighton and Hove Albion later today.

In La Liga, Real Madrid beat Sevilla 1-0, Barcelona lost to Cadiz 2-1, and Atletico Madrid eased past Real Valladolid 2-0. Atleti are top of the league, Real Madrid are 4th, Cadiz are 5th and Barcelona are 9th. It's been that kind of a season.

In Serie A, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Napoli, and Juventus all won to maintain status quo on the table (1 being AC Milan, and so on).

In Bundesliga, Bayern Munich played out a thrilling 3-3 draw against RB Leipzig to maintain their lead. Leipzig are now third after Bayer Leverkusen leapfrogged them with a 3-0 humbling of Schalke.

Here, then, are the best stats from the weekend.

Premier League

0

Jose Mourinho has never lost a home game against Arsenal. He has hosted them 11 times -- 7 wins, 4 draws.

1

For the first time in 416 games as a manager in the top five European leagues (Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City), Pep Guardiola didn't use a single substitute in a league game. What was that about five subs, again?

2

Mikel Arteta is just the second Arsenal manager to lose each of his first two north London derbies, after Bertie Mee in 1966-67. Meanwhile, Mourinho is just the second Spurs manager to win his first 2 north London derbies, after Jimmy Anderson in 1955-56.

8

Bruno Fernandes created eight chances after coming on at half-time against West Ham, the most by a player in a single PL match with a maximum of 45 minutes played since Jason Koumas vs. Sunderland in February 2008.

10

Harry Kane has assisted his 10th PL goal of the season in just 11 games; no player has ever reached 10 assists in fewer appearances from the start of a campaign in the competition (level with Mesut Özil in 2015-16). Oh, and Kane is the first player in Europe's top five leagues to provide 10 league assists this season -- he has four more than any other player.

11

The Kane-Son bromance is going strong. Only Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton (13 in 1995/96) & Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson (12 in 2018/19) have combined for more Premier League goals in a season than Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min this season (11). And we've only started December!

11

Harry Kane is now the outright top scorer in North London derbies in all competitions with 11 goals.

20

Since the start of last season, Mason Greenwood has scored 20 goals in all competitions, twice as many as any other teenager playing for a PL side (Gabriel Martinelli, 10).

20

Raheem Sterling has won more penalties than any other player in PL history.

31

Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min have combined for 31 PL goals (where one assisted the other). Only Frank Lampard & Didier Drogba combined for more in PL history (36).

40

Jose Mourinho has now won 40 London derbies in the PL. Only Arsene Wenger won more (106). However, Mourinho's win rate of 64% (40 in 63) is the best of any of the 17 managers to manage in at least 20 PL London derbies.

44

Arsenal attempted 44 crosses against Spurs, the most by any team in a single PL game so far this season

52

Mohamed Salah now has 52 league goals at Anfield -- only Lionel Messi at the Camp Nou (63) and Robert Lewandowski at the Allianz Arena (59) have more at a single venue in Europe's top five leagues since he joined Liverpool in 2017.

64

Liverpool are on the second longest unbeaten home run in English top-flight history - 64 games. They have won 53 of these (D11), scored 169 goals (2.6/game) and conceded 42 (0.7/game).

88.5%

A funky stat. Of Georginio Wijnaldum's 26 PL goals, 23 have come at home (88.5%), the highest ratio scored on home soil of any player with 20+ goals in the competition's history

250

Harry Kane's goal against Arsenal was the 250th goal of his professional career for club and country (202 for Spurs, 32 England, 9 Millwall, 5 Leyton Orient, 2 Leicester). It was also his 100th at home for Tottenham in all competitions, and 151st PL goal. He now passes Michael Owen for 9th on the all-time PL scoring list.

385

Following their win at West Ham, Manchester United have won more points from losing positions than any other side in Premier League history.

La Liga

1

Cadiz have become the first promoted team to win against both Barcelona and Real Madrid in the first half of a 20-team La Liga season.

2

Atletico Madrid have only conceded two goals after their first 10 league games this season, the joint-lowest figure at this stage of the season in La Liga ever (alongside Deportivo de La Coruña in 1993/94).

2

Neighbours Real Madrid, meanwhile, have kept a clean sheet in consecutive LaLiga away games against Sevilla (W2) for the second time in the competition's history. The first time they did it? In 1967 (also two).

14

Barcelona have earned just 14 points in their opening 10 La Liga games this season, their lowest tally at this stage since the 1987/88 season -- the season before Johan Cruyff arrived as manager.

Serie A

1

Andrea Pirlo has become the first coach to remain unbeaten in his first 10 Serie A games in his debut top-flight season in the three-point-a-win era . (Includes the 3-0 Napoli forfeit).

2

Napoli have won back-to-back Serie A games with 4+ goals margin for the second time in their history. The last time they did it was in 1957 (6-0 vs. Verona and 4-0 vs. Padova).

3

Lorenzo Insigne has scored three goals from outside the box in the current Serie A season: a joint-record among the top-5 European Leagues, level with James Ward-Prowse and Jonathan Bamba.

8

AC Milan have won eight of the first 10 games played in Serie A this season. Over the previous 86 seasons in the competition, they had won more at this point of the season only once, in 1954/55 (nine matches).

Messi-Ronaldo watch

Cristiano Ronaldo played but didn't do much. Lionel Messi played, and tried very hard, but didn't do much.

0 in 10

We're not kidding about the tried very hard bit. Messi had 10 shots against Cadiz. He is now the only player to take 10+ shots in a league game and fail to score in Europe's top five leagues this season.

The worst part? He's done it twice now. Also vs. Alaves (10).

0 in 2

Messi is yet to score against Cadiz after two matches against them. The only team he has faced at least twice in La Liga and has not scored against is Xerez, who are the other team in the Province of Cadiz.
