Stats: Messi ends drought, Fernandes' 13, Lewandowski's Klassiker record

What a smashing Saturday of football. In the Premier League, Manchester United came from behind to beat Everton 3-1, while Chelsea and Crystal Palace had 4-1 wins over Sheffield United and Leeds United respectively. In Spain, super sub Lionel Messi inspired Barcelona to a smashing 5-2 win over Real Betis, and Atletico Madrid swatted Cadiz aside 4-0. Oh, and the biggest match of the day - der Klassiker -- ended in a thrilling 3-2 win for Bayern Munich over Borussia Dortmund.

By The Numbers brings you the best stats from the day's action:

Premier League

1

Sheffield United now have just one point after their opening eight PL games, the joint-lowest tally at this stage of a campaign in the PL era, alongside Manchester City in 1995-96 (relegated), Southampton in 1998-99 (avoided relegation), great rivals Sheffield Wednesday in 1999-00 (relegated) and Sunderland in 2013-14 (avoided relegation).

2

Patrick Bamford is the second player this season, after Jamie Vardy, to score in each of his side's first four PL away games. Prior to this season, only three players had managed this before in the competition (Sergio Aguero in 2014-15, Daniel Sturridge in 2013-14 and Thierry Henry in 2001-02).

2

The two longest passing sequences leading to a goal in the PL so far this season have both been scored by Manchester United; Aaron Wan-Bissaka against Newcastle (21 passes) and Bruno Fernandes' equaliser against Everton on Sunday (20 passes).

3

Manchester United are the third team to win three consecutive PL away games having conceded first in each, after Leeds United (Oct 1999) and Tottenham Hotspur (Dec 2013).

6

No player has created more chances in a PL game this season than Hakim Ziyech did on Saturday against Sheffield United -- six. He got two assists.

7

More of Manchester United - they are now on a seven-match away winning streak in the PL, tying the club record set between April-August 1993.

13

In just his 10th away appearance in the PL, Bruno Fernandes has 13 goal involvements (nine goals, four assists), the most of any player in their first 10 away games in the competition.

13

Oh, Fulham. Oh, Ademalo. Fulham are winless in their last 17 PL London derbies (One draw, 16 losses). After Lookman's failed 98th-minute panenka, it is now 13 consecutive defeats - a top-flight record for London derbies.

14

This is the first time in 14 years that Carlo Ancelotti has suffered three consecutive league defeats. The last time? Oct-Nov 2006, when he was in charge of AC Milan.

17

Leeds United have conceded 17 goals in their first eight Premier League games this season. The last time they conceded more at this stage of a top-flight campaign was 22 in 1946-47.

32

Going into Sunday, the PL table toppers are Southampton, after their 2-0 win over Newcastle on Friday. The last time they topped the top-flight table at the end of a day was 32 years ago, on September 16, 1988.

36

Manchester United have won more PL games against Everton than any other side has won against another in the competition's history.

La Liga

4

Four players have now scored for Barcelona in La Liga before turning 18 -- Messi, Bojan Krckic, Ansu Fati and now.. Pedri.

17

Atletico Madrid are sitting atop La Liga right now. Their 17 points after the first seven games are the most they have had at this stage of a La Liga season since their 21 points in 2013-14, when they last won the title.

23

Atleti have extended their unbeaten streak in La Liga to 23 games -- the fourth-longest by a team in the league's history.

Bundesliga

4

This is the first time Bayern have won four consecutive games against Dortmund (all competitions) since 1968-70, when they won five straight.

16

Robert Lewandowski's goal was his 16th headed goal off a cross in the last five league seasons. That's just one shy of tying Cristiano Ronaldo for the most by any player from Europe's top five leagues in that span.

19 vs. 26

Since Erling Haaland made his Bundesliga debut in January 2020, only Robert Lewandowski (26) has scored more Bundesliga goals than his 19 (in 21 games).

24

Lewandowski is a scoring machine. Especially when it comes to der Klassiker. On Saturday, he scored his 24th Klassiker goal to extend his lead as the top scorer in the history of the rivalry. Of those 24 goals, 19 have come as a Bayern Munich player, which, quite incredibly, is still enough to be the top scorer (next highest is Gerd Muller with 15 goals).

51

Borussia Dortmund have lost consecutive der Klassiker games at home for the first time in 51 years (since 1969-70).

200

David Alaba has won his 200th Bundesliga match. The 272 matches it took for him to get to the milestone is fewer than any other player in league history.

Messi-Ronaldo watch

Cristiano Ronaldo's Juventus play later on Sunday, but Saturday was a good night for Messi. He scored a penalty, but it was his second goal that ended his long, long (relatively speaking) drought from open play.

2

Messi came off the bench in a La Liga game to score a brace for the fifth time in his career and the first time since May 2013 - which was also against Real Betis.

10

In club competitions, Messi snaps his longest non-penalty goalless streak (10 games), since he went 11 games without one in the 2007-08 season. Messi's second goal was his first from open play since August 8 vs. Napoli in the 2019-20 UCL Round of 16, ending a streak of 12 games without an open-play goal for club and country.

25

Messi now has 25 goals in 23 career games vs. Betis. He has only scored more vs. Real Madrid (26), Valencia (28), Atletico Madrid (32) and Sevilla (37).

100

Saturday marked Messi's 100th appearance as a sub for club and country (86 for Barcelona, 14 for Argentina).
