Speaking to Sky earlier this week, Bayern sporting executive Hasan Salihamidzic confirmed that Boateng would not receive a new contract after his current deal expires.

"That was a joint decision of the club's management and the coach was also involved in it," Salihamidzic said.

"I explained it to Jerome, and he was very understanding."

The future of Boateng has been a point of conflict between manager Hansi Flick and Salihamidzic for months.

"I don't want to say anything about that. Those are things where I don't know how they get to the media, but it doesn't matter," said Flick earlier this week.

"Everyone knows how I feel about Jerome; everyone knows what quality he has. He played a good season, last year too. He is very focused on his job and performs well. He is experienced and has a high quality."

The 32-year-old joined Bayern Munich from Manchester City in 2011 and is on course to win his ninth Bundesliga title with the Bavarians this season. He was a major factor in both Treble winning sides in 2013 and 2020 and a key player for Germany when they won the 2014 World Cup.

Defender David Alaba will also leave Bayern this summer alongside Boateng. Bayern have already signed French defender Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig for of €42.5 million.
