Barcelona to open third U.S. training academy in Austin, Texas

Barcelona on Thursday announced a third U.S. based training academy, this one set for Austin, Texas.

The third school, which is due to open in March, will join existing schools in Charlotte, North Carolina and Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The new school has programs for boys and girls aged 6 to 12 years and a separate program for boys aged 12 to 16.

The club say the academy's goal is to train young players in the same "creative and attacking style" as the top team.

The new school expands Barcelona's "reach in North America, which is a strategic market for the club after the opening of a permanent office last September in New York. Austin joins two other schools in the United States, Florida and Charlotte, and four more in Canada, located in Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto and Ottawa."

Barcelona's La Masia academy in Spain has produced several world-class stars, including Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Cesc Fabregas.

Barcelona have 20 training schools around the world. In February, they partnered with Mission Hills Group to launch a new FCBEscola in China, which will be the first football school of its kind directly managed by the club.
