Matildas to face Netherlands in final pre-World Cup friendly

The Matildas will face off against European champions Netherlands in their final friendly before June's World Cup.

Ante Milicic's side will face the world No.8 ranked team in Eindhoven on June 1 before heading to France to begin the tournament.

"We believe that this match against the Netherlands will come at a perfect time for our team," Milicic said. "With this match against a strong opponent coming a week before our first game in France, we will be able to get a good gauge of what aspects of our approach need to be fine-tuned prior to the start of the Women's World Cup."

Australia's Matildas are currently in camp in Colorado after last week's 5-3 loss to world champions the U.S. They won't assemble again until the final squad is chosen in mid-May, coming together for a hot weather training camp in Antalya, Turkey from May 19.

Australia will face the 'Oranjevrouwen' at the Philips Stadium, the home ground of Socceroos Aziz Behich and Trent Sainsbury at PSV Eindhoven.

The Matildas have a strong record against the Netherlands, winning three times and losing once in six matches.

Australia won their last encounter, in 2017 at the Algarve Cup, 3-2 courtesy of Emily Gielnik's double and Alanna Kennedy's winner.
