Roma have announced that they will face Brazilian club Chapecoense in a friendly at the Stadio Olimpico on Sept. 1. The Giallorossi, the Vatican City and the City of Rome all joined forces to arrange the charity game involving the club who were devastated by a tragic air crash almost a year ago which saw almost all of its players killed and coaching staff killed in Colombia. "All proceeds from the match, which gets underway at 20:45 local time at the Stadio Olimpico, will be donated to Chapecoense, to aid with the club's ongoing upkeep and recovery after the air disaster they suffered while travelling to the first leg of the Copa Sudamerica final in November 2016," read a statement on the club's official website. "Since the tragedy Chapecoense have shown remarkable courage and character, winning the Catarinense regional championship this year and currently sitting 13th in the Brazilian top flight." The fixture takes place during an international break and just days after the Giallorossi host Inter Milan in their second fixture of the new season. The news comes days after Barcelona hosted Chapecoense in the Joan Gamper Trophy match at Camp Nou.
