Pete Carroll said Chris Carson took the lead over top pick Rashaad Penny in the Seahawks' tailback battle with their performances Sunday. Carson had been considered the leader for a while, yet each got seven carries and 25 offensive snaps against Denver. Carson rushed for 51 yards and lost a fumble while Penny gained only 8 yards on the ground. Carroll said Carson looked "really good" and Penny looked "rusty" due to the time he missed while recovering from a broken finger. "I visited with him about it," Carroll said of Penny. "He really only had one good week of practice coming back and it wasn’t enough. He needs more work. He wasn’t as responsive as he’s been earlier on before he had to sit out for a while. So he’s gonna work real hard to make sure he’s ready to go. We’ll work him in. We love the chance of getting him in there. We’re going to keep looking for it, but Chris really, I think, took the lead in the position after that game. They’re going to alternate and we’re going to keep working those guys and see how they do, but Rashaad needs to get back [to being] really primed up like he was about a month ago."
