Dinamo Moscow banned from Europa League by UEFA over financial fair play

Dinamo Moscow say they have been excluded from European competition by UEFA for breaking financial fair play rules.

Dinamo, who reached the Europa League last 16 this season, will not be allowed to compete in next season's Europa League.

The club's place will likely pass to Rubin Kazan, who finished fifth in the Russian league, one place behind Dinamo. UEFA has yet to confirm the sanction, and did not respond to an inquiry from The Associated Press.

Dinamo had been under investigation for overspending after the club spent more on player transfers and wages than its football-related revenue in 2014 financial accounts.

In a statement, the club said they had already started taking "painful steps" to cut costs, and their performances on the field were suffering as a result.
