Luis Enrique appointed Celta boss

Celta Vigo have named Luis Enrique as their new coach after parting company
with Abel Resino on Saturday.

The announcement comes a week after Celta preserved their Primera Division status on the final day of the season after they defeated Espanyol 1-0.

Resino, 53, took charge of Celta in February as the replacement for Paco Herrera, who led the Galician club to promotion from the Segunda Division the previous season but was sacked with his side four points adrift of safety in the top flight.

A Celta statement read: "Abel Resino leaves Celta after both parties reached an agreement to go their separate ways, a decision jointly taken today which is considered best as much for the coach as for the club.

"Celta want to express their most sincere thanks to Abel Resino for the work he has done in the final stretch of the season, where the team achieved survival.''

The man chosen to replace Resino is 43-year-old former Spain international Luis
Enrique, who left his last post as Roma coach at the end of the 2011-12 campaign
after the capital club finished seventh in Serie A and outside of the European
places.

A futher statement read: "Luis Enrique is the new coach of Celta
after an agreement was reached between the club and coach for the next two
seasons.''

Luis Enrique, who before joining Roma in 2011 spent a successful three-year
period in charge of Barcelona B, will be presented in the coming days.
