Antoine Griezmann brace helps Atletico Madrid take La Liga lead

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann struck two goals in a 2-0 win against crosstown rival Getafe on Tuesday, helping his side take the overnight lead of the Spanish league.

Griezmann continued his strong start to the season with his fourth and fifth goals in six games in all competitions. Atletico's fourth win in five rounds moved the club above Barcelona on 12 points each.

The France forward put Atletico in front in the fourth minute before rounding off the victory at Vicente Calderon Stadium with a second goal in the 90th.

Imanol Agirretxe recorded a hat trick as Real Sociedad won 3-0 at Granada.

The striker scored in the seventh, 33rd and 79th minutes to give David Moyes' side their first win of the season after two defeats and two goalless draws.

Further pressure was piled on Valencia coach Nuno Espirito Santo as his side were beaten 1-0 at Espanyol, with Victor Alvarez's first-half goal proving the difference.

Los Che made a bright start to the game but were lucky not to concede more goals as the game went on and were grateful to young goalkeeper Jaume Domenech for keeping the damage to a single goal.
