Marseille come from behind to beat Lille 2-1

Marseille kept a grip on second place in Ligue 1 when goals by Alexis Sanchez and Samuel Gigot earned a 2-1 home win over Lille on Saturday.

Chilean Sanchez returned to the team after being suspended for the defeat at Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League on Wednesday and scored his fourth goal for Marseille this season.

Lille took the lead after 11 minutes when Ismaily calmly steered the ball into the net on the rebound after Adam Ounas' shot hit the post.

Marseille equalised in the 25th as an unmarked Sanchez guided the ball into the net with one touch after Cengiz Under found him inside the box.

The hosts started the second half aggressively, knowing a win would put them level on points with Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain, who earlier beat visitors Brest 1-0.

Amine Harit's shot towards the right corner in the 51st minute was superbly saved by Lille keeper Lucas Chevalier.

But Samuel Gigot put Marseille ahead on the hour when he scored from Sead Kolasinac's header following a set piece.

As Lille pushed forward towards the end, Marseille looked to catch them on the counter and had several more chances, with Pape Gueye's effort saved by Chevalier in the 78th minute.

The victory put Marseille alongside PSG on 19 points with the capital club top on on goal difference after seven games, while Lille are on sixth with 10 points.

Marseille host Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League group stage on Tuesday before playing Stade Rennes at home next Sunday in Ligue 1, while Lille welcome Toulouse next Saturday.
