Last-minunte goal by Nicolas Castillo gives Chile win over Mexico

Nicolas Castillo's late second-half goal gave Chile a 1-0 victory over Mexico in a friendly on Tuesday night.

Both sides had several opportunities to get on the scoresheet during the first 45 minutes, but solid play from Mexico's goalkeeper Hugo Gonzalez and Chilean stopper Brayan Cortez kept the match clean going into the break.

Chile had the best chance to grab a first-half goal in the 38th minute, but Gonzalez aptly deflected Junior Fernandes' close-range shot after a through ball by Manchester United star Alexis Sanchez.

Mexico seemed poised to break the stalemate in the 73rd minute when Erick Gutierrez served Jurgen Damm on a run that left Cortez and two Chilean defenders out of position, only for Damm's shot to get blocked into the side neting.

Castillo's game-winner came in the 89th minute when the Benfica forward launched a shot from distance that initially rebounded off Gonzalez, and then charged in to put home his own rebound.

The match at Estadio La Corregidora in Queretaro marked the first time both sides had faced off since Chile's 7-0 win over Mexico at the 2016 Copa America Centanario tournament.
