Marcos Rojo back at Man United training, nearing injury return - sources

MANCHESTER, England -- Manchester United are hopeful centre-back Marcos Rojo is nearing a comeback after the defender returned to training, sources have told ESPN FC.

Rojo has missed the last three games after suffering an injury in training ahead of the 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup.

He was ruled out of the fifth-round tie at the John Smith's Stadium, as well as games against Sevilla and Chelsea.

However, sources have told ESPN FC that the 27-year-old has stepped up his recovery by returning to training.

There is hope the Argentine international could be available for Liverpool's visit to Old Trafford on March 10 and the second leg of the Champions League round-of-16 tie against Sevilla on March 13.

Rojo's return is a boost for manager Jose Mourinho, who has seen his defensive options dwindle in recent weeks.

Eric Bailly is yet to start a game following three months on the sidelines with an ankle problem, Phil Jones has missed the last three games through injury and Daley Blind has not featured since January because of an ankle injury.

Mourinho was left with no option but to partner Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof for the games against Huddersfield, Sevilla and Chelsea.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is also close a comeback after training for nearly two weeks following a knee injury. The striker, 36, has not played since Boxing Day.

Meanwhile, Ander Herrera has started running after injuring a hamstring in the draw with Sevilla.

Mourinho said he is expecting the midfielder to be sidelined "for weeks."
