MEXICO CITY -- The summer transfer window is still open for Liga MX, and it's been nothing short of shocking. Djaniny Tavares, who became league champion and finished as top scorer at the 2018 Clausura tournament, has left for Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli. The Cape Verde striker therefore joins a small list of key players who contributed goals to their former sides and whose departures have team executives scrambling to replace the stars and their output.
Gustavo Bou: Despite playing only 30 matches with Club Tijuana, the Argentine forward was able to prove his value and quality. In the small spell at Xolos, he scored nine goals and five assists. He became an important player for the first XI but is reportedly returning to Argentina and Racing Club.
Raul Ruidiaz: The Peru international was one of the best centre-forwards to come to Mexico over the past few years. His skills and instincts made him become top scorer while with Morelia, a side he inspired all the way into the Liguilla. Ruidiaz became one of the most beloved players for the Michoacan fan base, playing 67 matches and scoring 39 goals with four assists. Yet he's chosen to move to Major League Soccer, becoming the focal point up front for the Seattle Sounders.
Fernando Uribe: Uribe was one of Toluca's main stars in the 2018 Clausura. Despite some inconsistency, he played a fundamental part in Toluca's deep Liguilla run. He played 102 matches and scored 49 goals with Toluca but has since agreed to move to Brazil side Flamengo.
Djaniny Tavares: His departure from Mexico shocked the country's football scene. He is the latest scoring champion in Liga Bancomer with 16 goals in the regular season while being one of the main pieces in helping Santos clinch the title. Tavares leaves his side having scored 48 total goals in four years.
Keisuke Honda: With just one year in Mexico, the Japanese player is likely leaving as the 2018 Clausura's best midfielder. His professionalism surprised everyone at Tuzos del Pachuca, and he didn't disappoint in attack either, notching 12 goals in 33 matches. He was also key for the Hidalgo-based side in the Copa MX 2017 Apertura final match.
