Hector Herrera summer price tag set at €40M by Porto - report

Potential suitors for Porto's Mexican midfielder Hector Herrera will have to pay the full €40 million buy-out clause, according to a report this week in Portugal's O Jogo newspaper.

Herrera was featured on the front page of the sports newspaper Wednesday, under the headline "Herrera Blindado" -- loosely translated as "Herrera untouchable" -- referring to the elevated price, which the report stated Porto will not be flexible in negotiating. There have been some rumors that clubs such as Napoli, Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund, amongst others, have shown interest in the Mexican.

The report also suggested that Herrera will be, as expected, suiting up for Mexico at CONCACAF's Gold Cup in July, which is El Tri's priority, and not the Copa America in Chile. That would mean Herrera will not have much of a preseason in Porto, as the report pointed out.

According to a club statement, Herrera signed a four-year deal with Porto in June 2013 and was sold for €8 million from Mexico first division club Pachuca. The 25-year-old had a lukewarm first season in Portugal, but excelled for Mexico in the 2014 World Cup and impressed in Porto's run to the Champions League quarterfinals this season.
