Aaron Ramsey to wear Mikel Arteta's No. 8 at Arsenal next season

Aaron Ramsey will take over Mikel Arteta's No. 8 shirt at Arsenal next season, the club has announced.

Ramsey will switch from the No. 16 he has previously worn, with Arteta leaving the club this summer to go into coaching.

He's the second Arsenal player to change shirt numbers for next season, with Alexis Sanchez taking over Tomas Rosicky's No. 7 instead of the 17 he has worn since joining the Gunners two years ago.

There had been speculation that Francis Coquelin would be given the No. 8 shirt since both he and new signing Granit Xhaka wear 34. The club has yet to announce what Xhaka's number will be.

Arsenal said any fan who had already bought next season's replica shirt with Ramsey's name and number will be contacted by the club "in due course." Arsenal unveiled their new home kit for next season on Monday.
